General Info

Start date:2013-03-06

End date:

In the framework of the major conference “EU Science: Global Challenges, Global Collaboration” (ES:GC2) the draft AERAP Framework Programme for Cooperation will be presented and discussed with policy makers and AERAP stakeholders.

On Wednesday, the 6th of March 2013, the South African Science Minister Derek Hanekom will open the “Workshop to discuss the AERAP Framework Programme for Cooperation” in the European Parliament, Brussels.

The Framework Programme will define in greater detail objectives for African-European radio astronomy cooperation in thematic priorities such as ICT, renewable energy and human capital development, discussed during the 2012 series of AERAP stakeholder events. For every thematic priority, the Framework Programme will identify objectives and key actions as well as instruments to support relevant cooperation. All stakeholders, including scientists, engineers and industry, will have the occasion to discuss their ideas for implementing the Framework Programme and initiate the process of consortium building. A draft Framework Programme for Cooperation will be submitted to registered participants prior to the event.

In the evening of the 6th of March, the European Parliament’s AERAP Group invites the AERAP stakeholders to dinner in the European Parliament in order to review an AERAP framework programme for collaboration and discuss how the European Parliament can contribute to its implementation. Guest of honour will be the South African Minister for Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom, who will  give a keynote speech. The Irish Minister for Trade and Development, Joe Costello, and the Director General of the SKA Organisation, Prof Phil Dimaond, will also give speeches.

Besides the AERAP events, the conference “EU Science: Global Challenges, Global Collaboration” will include different plenary sessions, scientific and technical seminars on various topics and consortium building meetings. It is expected to lay the foundation for collaborative R&D projects involving partners from 5 continents.
